Deep Foundations for Landslides/Slope Stabilization Committee

J. Erik Loehr P.E. Ph.D., Chairman

The focus of this committee will be to address non-earthwork deep foundation related technologies utilized for stabilization of landslides and slopes. Their purpose encompasses a topic that involves various techniques already carried out by DFI members. The need for an industry resource in support of landslide /slope stabilization issues is driving the idea of creating this technical committee to concentrate on the unique issues in this specialized field.

Committee Notes

    Likely short-term activities include:

    • Mid-year meeting in summer 2010 - location to be determined.  The focus of this meeting will be to formalize committee objectives and select a limited number of activities to pursue in short term.
    • Organization of seminar - this will likely follow format similar to previous seminars but addressing "lessons learned" from recent experience
    • Develop some form of guidance publication - one option for a relatively "quick hitter", is to develop a high level guide for owners and decisions makers on the topic of "selection and evaluation of slope stabilization methods".  This is something that is currently lacking, and could be completed within a reasonable time frame so that the committee can have something to show for its efforts in relatively short order
    • Committee meeting at Annual Conference in Hollywoodthis meeting would be used to follow up on short-term activities and to develop longer range plans for the committee.
    • Interested in becoming a member of this committee?  Write a letter to DFI Headquarters on your company letterhead, indicating your interest in joining, and your reasons/experience level.
