Tiebacks & Soil Nailing Committee

Terence P. Holman Ph.D. P.E., Chairman

A Committee of industry wide professionals who design, construct and supply equipment for temporary and permanent retaining structures using tiebacks or soil nailing techniques comprises this Committee involved in the support and understanding of Soil Nailing and Tiebacks.

Committee Notes
  • NEW!  The Soil Nailing Guide Specification iS AVAILABLE!  This guide, a result of the work of the Tiebacks and Soil Nailing Committee of the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) with review by the Anchored Earth RetentionCommittee of the ADSC: The International Association of Foundation Drilling andthe Technical Activities Committee of DFI, is intended for general use primarily in the private market, since the public sector is typically served bythe Federal Highway Administration design and construction guidelines. The model spec encompasses all designs, materials, products, accessories, installation techniques and testing procedures required for the installation of soil nail excavation support or earth retention systems. Its purpose is to assist in the development of project specifications for soil nail earth excavation support and earth retention systems and is based on generally accepted industry standards but may require modification by the specification writer to accommodate unusual or unforeseen site and subsurface conditions and the particular circumstances of the project.  In this regard, the Committee hopes that the Guide will be of use where other design and construction guidelines do not exist or in the development of building code provisions for Soil Nailing in the various Building Codes nationwide.  To order click here...
