Reliability on Quality Control & Quality Assurance of Deep Foundations

A safe Design of foundation generally based on two considerations such as, the pressure that is safe from shear failure criteria and the pressure that is safe from settlement criteria. Similarly the load carrying capacity of a pile can be obtained from Vertical load capacity, uplift load capacity and lateral load capacity test on the piles in co-relation with theoretical approach of design. The load test may be of Contentious load test or cyclic load test. The test results can be obtained through soil resistance (P) vs. Deflection (y). The result varies from one type of soil to another type of soil. Similarly the Low Strain, High Strain Pile Integrity Test and Cross Hole Sonic Logging test is also considered to check the soundness of the pile. But it is difficult to carry out test on all the piles. Now, a question of reliability comes on the quality assurance of the structure. Here, an attempt has been made to find out the reliability on the behaviour of foundations in respect to quality assurance of the foundations structure. With the help of statistical analysis, frequency of tests and other data from field & laboratory an approach for reliability can be achieved. This article presents a brief about the process. Since the test over a structure is ‘reliable’ if it can be counted upon to perform in a dependable manner.
