A Study on Compression of Shaft of Individual Pile

An expression for calculating the compression of pile shaft in terms of disturbed coefficient of pile skin friction (A) and relative load of pile toe (B) is presented in the paper. Based on the load test date of instrumented piles, the relationships between A and pile length-diameter ratio (L/d) at working load for different types of piles are analyzed. According to solution of elastic theory and the measured results of pile toe, the relationship between B and L/d at working load is obtained. From above analyses, a practical method for estimating the compression of pile shaft, which can take account of skin friction effect in combination with toe resistance effect, is suggested.
