Capacity of jacked-down piles
Long, slender piles installed by jacking are increasingly being used in soft soils. The results of loading tests on three different slender piles, about 36 to 38 m long are presented. The loading tests indicated that the allowable capacity of the piles exceeded 500 kN. No signs of buckling was detected. Jacked-down piles installed in short sections through thick deposits of soft clay may tend to deviate from their alignment.
