Loading tests on bored piles for foundations of motorway viaducts. A case history the Kinaii-Sakarya motorway, Turkey
A. Clerici, L. Griffini & M. Pagni Frette
The construction of the Kinali-Sakarya Motorway (Turkey) required piles foudnations for several viaducts, overbridges and underbridges. Several loading tests on bored piles (800-1000, 1200-1650 mm diameter with a maximum depth of 43 m) were executed. The results of eight loading tests and their comparison with different design hypotheses made with two different calculation methods are reported. The foundations were executed in layered alluvial soil sequences with a grain size ranging from clay to gravel. Soils under water-table conditions and groundwater over-pressures in sandy lenses were detected. The results of loading tests show that in the examined cases the measured settlements of the piles were comparable with those obtained by analytical methods.
