The construction of a ticket hall and underground station access shaft within the new Angel Square development posed a great many geotechnical problems for the development’s foundation designers. This paper describes the various stages of geotechnical analysis and testing that were carried out on the project, in order to produce foundations that could safely deal with the tunneling induced horizontal and vertical ground movements. This paper also describes the monitoring of the ground movements caused by the tunneling and compares the pre-construction movement predictions with the measured results.
