Base & shaft-grouted bored Pile foundations for the first residential complex, Giza, Egypt

This paper describes the construction of the foundations of the FIRST Residential Complex in Giza, Egypt. The foundations consist of 300 bored piles under bentonite of 1.0, 1.2, and 1.5 m diameter with base and shaft grouting. A summary of the ground conditions will be presented. The construction methods, controls and results of trial pile load tests will be discussed. Particular attention will be given to the grouting methods, materials and results. The combination of base and shaft grouting provided an attractive technical and economic solution allowing shorter piles to be constructed with the capability to take higher loads than conventional non-grouted piles.
