Marine Foundations

The committee has merged with DFI’s Driven Pile Committee and the industry-wide professionals formerly serving on this committee and who promote and support the design, construction and equipment supply for marine foundation projects such as wharfs, bridges, locks, utility line towers, sewer outfalls, tunnels and other related structures are now pursuing their initiatives through collaboration with the existing driven pile committee members.

Rick Ellman, P.E., is a Partner in Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers (MRCE), a leading foundation engineering firm based in New York City.  He joined the firm in 1980.  He graduated from the State University of New York at Oneonta with a BS in Geology and he received both a BSCE (1980) and MSCE (1985) from Polytechnic Institute of New York.  He is a licensed Professional Engineer in numerous states, and he is active in The Moles, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY) and DFI.

Initiatives

Partnership with ASCE COPRI

The committee teams with the ASCE Coasts Oceans & Rivers Institute (COPRI) Met Section to present a biannual technical seminar.

Ben C. Gerwick Award

The committee nominates recipients of this innovation award recognizing the spirit of Ben C. Gerwick and his phenomenal contribution to the marine foundation industry.

Research

Study of factors that influence vibrodriveability, pile behavior and axial and lateral capacities of vibratory and impact driven piles.
